Billy Moore
Billy Moore worked under Colin Grey at the Royal west Academy in England 1981 -1985, specializing in sculptural form using clay, bronze and welded metal. Badu Design was established in 1998 as a business producing one off figurative ceramic and welded metal pieces. A development of the work into bronze casting along with Raku firing has provided a greater range which also incorporates garden sculptural form and Public art commissions.
“In Billy’s work there is a ruthless striping away of the surface layers that define us, and the things we hide behind. Such as gender, status, education, wealth and when those things are dissolved what remains? Billy’s work shows the essential being on a journey, and for the most part of this is a solitary path, even when we find others on the same path as the monks. But the solitary figures are not lonely, they like the trance dancers are consumed not with longing but with being and doing. They embody an exuberance, celebrating life with a sense of fun, much like the artist himself.
The figures in groups, are clustered in moments of complex connectedness, couples, family groups perhaps but not necessarily so. There is a story been revealed within which we find ourselves, or we want to find ourselves.
