We are delighted to welcome the genius that is Conor Walton, I hope he will not mind me thanking him for his warm hospitality, sitting in his kitchen listening to his amazing Son who was giving me a lesson in Egyptology, yes,Egyptology, well in fairness he should have a pretty good grasp of it as he is 6 and half, yup embarrassing as it may sound I was being versed by a guy a little under 7, well the afternoon progressed drinking coffee and eating homemade biscuits, finally we got down to business in hand and for me that was to see his work, to say I was in awe is an understatement, the body of work in his studio was mesmerising, landscapes, still life and portraits. Hiding on the ground was the portrait I was very familiar with, a perfect likeness to Jim Sreenan, my ex Battalion Commander, you will see the perfection of Conor portraits on his website and I would not be surprised if Commisions come flying in…. we are looking forward to working closely with Conor and invite everyone into the Gallery in the coming weeks to see his work.

One of the most enjoyable parts of being in this industry is that every now and then you come across Genius, now don’t get me wrong I am not in any position to claim to know what a genius is or looks like but when you step into the world of Noel Murphy , his work screams GENIUS. In the back of the Emer gallery in Belfast Noel is coming to the end of what might be described as a journey of life, a pictorial view of the past 12 years or so in charcoal and pencil. I shook hands with this wonderful artist and could feel the energy running through his hands, to say I was in awe is an understatement, my eyes were darting left, right, up down, I was actually ” Art Drunk” . Noel gave me a brief synopsis of the treasures that were surrounding me, briefing me in the deeper meanings of his work, he allowed me browse through his oils which actually make you want to cry, they are so alive and screaming ” listen to my story” I did not outstay my welcome as I felt that maybe I would temporarily halt the status quo. I bid him farewell and turned to leave the genius at work. Noels work can be seen on the Emer Gallery websire and James gorry.

Had the utmost pleasure of meeting the French family in Trim Co Meath. Paul is the one of the last direct descendants of the gifted and talented artist Percy French. Percy himself had many strings to his bow , he graduated from TCD as a civil engineer and it is said that whilst in Trinity he penned his first song,Percy painted throughout his life and was very much a sought after artist during his tenure in The OPW ,it was also during this time of his life he penned some of his most famous songs ” The mountains of mourne” and of course the song young and old would recognise ” are ya right there micheal”which was a song written to ridicule the railways in Clare. We are hoping that with the help of Paul and his family we may have a small retrospective of Percy’s work and a poetry reading of his beautiful poems in the future. In conclusion I would like to thank Paul and his wife for the cups of tea and the biscuits and of course sharing there memories and paintings of there famous relation.
