Sylviana Zub
Silviana Zub is a Romanian-born American painter and muralist.
After settling in California, Silviana completed her higher education at the University of Southern California (USC) and since the summer of 2007 she has been dedicating herself full time to painting in her studio in Los Angeles, California.
Influences on her art include a combination of classic styles of the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine empires she was exposed to early in her life while growing up in Romania. In addition to her upbringing, her vast reading and extensive traveling have played a major role in shaping her artistic vision. Gradually her work became more surrealist-inspired, more unexpected and provocative, and she started to experiment with colors and an intense focus on composition, blending eccentric perspectives and controversial influences which resulted in wildly imaginative, unforgettable dreamscapes. Other more abstract works are inspired by nature, her travel, various childhood folk-tales from her homeland, and they employ a personal technique that Silviana has developed: I try to simplify the material forms, to purify the physicality to the point of eliminating or minimizing the shapes so that the essence, the energy transpire as untainted as possible.
Silviana’s art is a perfect combination of passion, inspiration, improvisation, fluidity and often playfulness. Describing her painting process, Silviana says: I aim for fluidity and an organic feel, as if the paintings came into existence on their own.
Silviana’s work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in galleries throughout the United States and Europe, and can also be found in numerous private, public and museum collections. Her work is refreshingly different, truly inspiring and passionate: The best way to describe the connection I have with my paintings is almost like a love affair that begins during the early stages of preparing my canvases with gesso.
